Getting There

By air

The airport access and facilities at the airport are created with disabled passengers in mind (entrances, maintenance services, providing extra services, sanitary spaces, escape routes, elevators, doors and exits are adapted for people on the wheelchairs). Specially for the Euro 2012 tournament, the city bought an ambulift which will be put into operation before June 2012.

More information about access to the airport for disabled travelers can be found at http://invatourism.org.ua/?q=en/node/1013

By Train

To get to Kharkiv by accessible train, a wheelchair user should make their order 5 days in advance, making the provider aware of access requirements.

For a tourist coming to Kharkiv by train, the first obstacle upon arrival will be to get to the city from the railway station. It is impossible to do it via the subway, which has no elevators. The wheelchair user should cross the railroad bed, which is difficult without assistance.  As explains the Ukrzalisnitsya railway state company, “disabled people could use the help of the station servicemen”. The problem here is that the employees often do not know how to help wheelchair users. This could be problematic and cause inconvenience.
