Good access is essential for disabled people to be able to exercise their rights and to participate fully in society. UEFA EURO 2012 provides an opportunity to improve access to football and for the removal of physical, sensory and intellectual barriers in public places in two host countries. The Football with No Limits project aims to support the two host countries in delivering accessible stadia for UEFA EURO 2012, as well as local businesses (such as banks, hotels and restaurants) in providing improved facilities and services for disabled people both during the tournament and afterwards. Football with No Limits will provide new life skills to disabled young people, as well as reliable access information for disabled supporters and visitors of the tournament.
Activities
Some of the project’s activities include the setting up of access advisory groups in Poland and Ukraine and the measuring of current access to public spaces. Football with No Limits will also assess local businesses in each host city and provide them with improving access toolkits. The project will award disability friendly zones and encourage healthy competition between local businesses. As one of the project’s aspects, the training of audio-described commentators will be done in Poland and Ukraine with support from local media.
